WARNING

The Hypnotherapy profession is awash with  "dabblers" they are both unprofessional and damaging to the industry's reputation and damaging to the general public. The general public are swayed by important sounding qualifications which are irrelevant to Hypnotherapy Practice.

Most successful Hypnotherapists are full time. Most successful people have something in common. They love what they do. You won't find rich and successful people that hate what they do or have to back up their business with unrelated add-ons.

Some Hypnotherapy organisations turn a blind eye to people who are in practice with as much as a five day Hypnotherapy Certificate. This can not and will not continue.

Some novice and/or uncommited part time Hypnotherapists work from home or as mobile therapists. There may be practical reasons for this but does this show an air of professionalism? Do you have a visiting lawyer or do you visit him/her at their home?

This is not and should not be a "COTTAGE INDUSTRY", Hypnotherapists see vulnerable people who are often depressed and anxious , we should be professional and ethical and been seen as such!

Be especially suspicious if mention is given of:

  • Nursing qualifications
  • Mention of  Post Graduate status
  • Doctors of Divinity
  • Teaching qualifications
  • Mention of being a Hypnotherapy Tutor unless registered as such with a reputable Hypnotherapy Organisation
  • Very long lists of letters which refer to TFT.Reiki,EFT,Reflexology, Indian Head Massage etc.
  • Registration with the NHS - anyone can get an Independent Provider number in the industry,  It is forbidden to use the NHS logo in any form of advertising. All bona fide Hypnotherapists have knowledge of this through their Professional Organisations.
  • Lower than average fees
  • Hypnotherapists who offer money back guarantees
  • Limited working hours i.e evenings only
  • Hypnotherapists who tell you there is a long waiting list for their services
  • Unverified testimonials or mention of celebrity clients
  • Members of the Hypnotherapists family answering the phone
  • Hypnotherapist insisting that only one session is required
  • Hypnotherapists who mention childhood abuse or offer such suggestions as being the cause of the problem
Of course there is no implication that Teachers , Nurses and other professionals are not ethical or quaified in their field, but why would you have a need to mention how you are qualified in another area if you are confident with your Hypnotherapy status?

DEGREES

At this moment in time in the UK A DEGREE IS NOT REQUIRED in order to be a Professional and Ethical Hypnotherapist.

Hypnotherapy is accepted by some in the orthodox medical professions and is so effective that there are General Practitioners and Dentists who practice Hypnotherapy. A stamp of approval indeed!

Anyone who claims to have a Degree in Hypnotherapy Practice will have studied with only one of two known training schools in the UK . The BSC Hons Clinical Hypnosis  is offered through St Marys University college Twickenham in London.

I trained with Chrysalis Counselling in Kent in 2004.
